Abstract
Este artigo privilegia a questao da construcao multicultural da igualdade e da diferenca elegendo como caso exemplar da problematica pos- moderna da compatibilizacao dos direitos sociais e dos direitos culturais, a administracao do Rendimento minimo Garantido em Portugal a populacao de etnia cigana. A tese defendida e a de que o universalismo antidiferencialista que caracteriza a gestao das politicas sociais do Welfare State se constitui como um obstaculo a compreensao das praticas sociais dos beneficiarios do RMG de etnia cigana fundadas, essencialmente, numa dinâmica de resistencia cultural.
