Abstract
La situation de l’auteur dramatique dans l’organisation de la pratique théâtrale au Québec apparaît pour certains préoccupante, pour d’autres le reflet d’une évolution naturelle qui prescrit les conditions d’une pratique renouvelée de la dramaturgie. Si l’on admet le principe d’un déplacement du pouvoir vers la personne du metteur en scène, il convient aussi de constater en effet combien l’environnement actuel contribue à la diversification des écritures et, par le fait même, à redéfinir le métier d’auteur de théâtre. Notre ambition dans cet article est d’apporter un éclairage historique sur ces questions et, plus précisément, de penser, à partir d’un certain nombre de cas, l’élaboration d’un modèle historiographique qui remplacerait celui, longtemps pratiqué au Québec, de la galerie de portraits qui va de pair avec la constitution d’un répertoire canonique. Posant d’emblée l’hypothèse que la nature même du travail de l’écrivain se voit transformée par le statut relatif du texte dans la représentation, nous cherchons à tracer la voie d’une histoire des pratiques dramaturgiques au Québec.
