Les recherches relatives au mentorat entrepreneurial sont encore peu nombreuses et une vision intégrée et robuste du processus de mentorat manque. Notre constat est que dans un programme formel de mentorat entrepreneurial la relation est tripartite entre le mentor entrepreneur, le mentoré entrepreneur novice et l’organisation tierce initiatrice du programme. Nous proposons une modélisation du processus de mentorat basée sur une relecture de six des modèles existants dans la littérature, incluant la relation du binôme de mentorat et le rôle joué par l’organisation tierce. Cette modélisation permet de comparer des cas et de juger les fonctions clés du tiers initiateur.
