Abstract
Une épidémie de crises convulsives survenue dans le village galibi-marworno de Kumarumã (Terre indigène Uaçá) entre septembre et novembre 2007 met au jour les fragiles équilibres établis au long des quarante dernières années : recomposition religieuse et ethnique, alliances institutionnelles, transfert du centre économique du fleuve Cassiporé vers la ville d’Oiapoque. L’extrême défiance suscitée par les pajé (nom attribué localement aux chamans) et la crise politique qui s’ensuit semblent traduire une lecture des événements selon une grille ancienne, alors que les familles vivaient dispersées de crainte d’être frappées par les maladies attribuées à la « sorcellerie d’attaque » (assault sorcery) au cours de « guerres spirituelles ». Tandis que le métier de leader communautaire s’apparente toujours davantage à une profession nécessitant des compétences administratives, la reconfiguration des rapports interethniques réduit les pajé à n’être détenteurs que d’un pouvoir sans objet. C’est là l’occasion d’examiner l’évolution des rapports entre chamanisme et politique depuis le rattachement définitif du nord de l’Amapá au Brésil, en 1900.
