Abstract
Cet article vise à élaborer un cadre théorique articulant sociologie de la protection sociale, sociologie de l'emploi et du marché du travail et sociologie des âges de la vie et du parcours des âges, pour interpréter les transformations intervenues au cours des vingt dernières années dans la distribution du travail sur le cycle de vie et les implications de cette distribution sur le remodelage de la protection sociale. Le marché du travail se resserre sur les âges médians, entraînant une déchronologisation et une détemporalisation du cycle de vie ternaire, scandé par la scolarisation, l'emploi à vie et le passage à la retraite marquant l'entrée dans la vieillesse. L'ordonnancement du parcours des âges se fait imprécis et aléatoire. Tant les politiques de main-d'œuvre des entreprises que les mesures de protection sociale contribuent activement à ce parcours.
