Abstract
O artigo aborda o projeto de roca comunitaria realizado pelo missionario Scilla Franco na decada de 1970 na Missao Tapepora como um trabalho de diaconia. Ele procura analisar os diferentes impactos que o projeto desencadeou em, pelo menos, duas perspectivas: a implementacao de novas dinâmicas para o contato entre os povos indigenas e as missoes metodistas, e a transformacao das relacoes interetnicas da regiao – entre os Terena e Guarani. Esses processos serao percebidos a luz da critica de correntes ecumenicas ao colonialismo, que teve seu apice nas decadas de 1960 e 1970, e a seus efeitos em projetos locais de desenvolvimento. Examinaremos as visoes que presidiram a concessao de financiamentos pela Igreja Unida do Canada a projetos como o de Scilla Franco, que contou com financiamento canadense, e as diretrizes especificas do mesmo, visando a uma transformacao da atuacao missionaria junto aqueles povos
