Abstract
Patients with a symptomatic cavus foot present with areas of overload or problems on the tension (lateral) side of the foot, or the compression (medial) side. Tension side symptoms include ankle instability and peroneal tendonitis. Compression side symptoms include ankle and subtalar arthritis and impingement. Overload problems include stress fractures, sesamoiditis, claw toes and calluses. Muscle imbalance is the underlying cause in most cases. Treatment is directed at offloading the pressure areas and correcting the position of the foot. Surgery can also address arthritic change.
