Abstract
A 75‐year‐old female patient presented to the emergency department with two episodes of syncope. She had a previous history of a subxyphoid pericardial window for a pericardial effusion secondary to renal failure. Computed tomography scan images demonstrated an intrapericardial herniation with right ventricular compromise. The gastric fundus, body of the stomach, and omentum were located in the pericardium (Figs. 1 and 2). The patient was treated with nasogastric decompression and returned to a normal diet. She was asymptomatic following decompression and was discharged without correction secondary to severe comorbidities. Axial CT scan image demonstrating an anterior intrapericardial air‐fluid level due to the herniated stomach with cardiac compression.
