Dans cet article, nous décrivons et étudions un dispositif collaboratif entre chercheurs, professeurs et élèves de fin d’école primaire (10-11 ans) centré sur la résolution de problèmes mathématiques. À travers l’analyse de trois exemples de problèmes expérimentés dans ce contexte, nous nous interrogeons sur les procédures que les élèves sont à même de développer pour résoudre les problèmes proposés et sur les potentialités de ces problèmes à contribuer à l’enseignement de savoirs algébrico-numériques chez les élèves. Ces analyses nous conduisent à interroger le rôle des formules et de leur production dans la démarche de modélisation algébrique a priori visée. Les résultats de notre étude nous amènent alors à considérer deux entrées possibles qui favoriseraient l’enseignement de savoirs préalgébriques à l’école primaire. Enfin, la recherche menée nous incite à penser que les représentations initiales des élèves et des enseignants sur ce qu’est une démarche de recherche en mathématiques ont une influence conséquente sur la mise en oeuvre des situations expérimentées.
