Abstract
La prise en charge à domicile par la famille est considérée comme la principale alternative au placement en institution pour les patients atteints de démence. Cette solution peut avoir d'importantes répercussions sur la qualité de vie, la santé et l'état émotionnel de la personne responsable du malade. La lourdeur du fardeau est reliée non seulement à la gravité des symptômes du malade mais également à la personnalité, au vécu et aux capacités du soignant pour faire face au stress en général. Dans ce contexte, une intervention clinique centrée sur les besoins personnels du soignant, et visant l'apprentissage d'habiletés cognitives comportementales pour mieux gérer le stress associé à son rôle, s'avère souvent un prérequis indispensable ou un complément aux autres services de support plutôt axés sur les problèmes pratiques.
