Abstract
Depuis le début des années 1990, de plus en plus de créations musicales dites « contemporaines » pour jeune public occupent la scène artistique québécoise. En effet, des organismes voués à la création jeunesse font appel à des compositeurs de la scène contemporaine alors que des organismes oeuvrant dans la création musicale contemporaine s’ouvrent au jeune public. À partir d’un inventaire quasi-exhaustif des oeuvres du genre présentées depuis 1990 au Québec, cet article vise à faire un portrait de ce répertoire bien particulier : d’abord, observer quelles sont ses caractéristiques, ensuite, soulever quelques hypothèses quant à leur raison d’être, et finalement, souligner leurs incidences sur l’acte créateur. Quelle est la part de responsabilité du contexte historico-culturel, des compositeurs, des producteurs ou des auditeurs dans l’orientation stylistique du répertoire étudié? Le portrait de la création musicale pour jeune public ne serait-il pas simplement témoin du rayonnement de l’univers de l’enfant, magique, ludique et imaginatif, sur celui du compositeur?
