El llamada se encuentra en el origen mismo de las peregrinaciones; como el perdon, el milagro, la sanacion, la promesa cumplida, la reflexion interior, o la penitencia estan en el origen del Camino de Santiago. La globalizacion y la cultura de masas han aportado nuevos argumentos, eventos y productos que han ayudado de forma decisiva a dar el primer paso. En la ultima decada, peliculas, canciones, novelas y otras manifestaciones artisticas han ayudado a la difusion universal de la Ruta Jacobea. Paises lejanos al Camino tradicional como Corea, Canada, Estados Unidos o Brasil aportan una gran cantidad de nuevos peregrinos, es la respuesta al impredecible llamada. No obstante, tambien se han intentado generar a traves de diferentes politicas y acciones promocionales. La ultima visita a Santiago de Compostela del principe Naruhito de Japon es ilustrativa de la busqueda del mencionado efecto
