Abstract
Le Canada ne connait pas de laicite constitutionnalisee, mais la jurisprudence a fortement etabli les principes de separation de l'Etat et des Eglises et celui de la neutralite comme des elements necessaires au respect de l'egalite de tous les citoyens. Dans un pays qui a fait du multiculturalisme sa politique officielle, quelle conception de la laicite se degage d'une telle perspective politique et d'une telle orientation juridique ? Comment l'Etat s'est-il graduellement affranchi des Eglises ? Ce sont la quelques aspects que nous traiterons, apres avoir esquisse l'emergence historique des principes de laicite au Canada.
