Abstract

A criança com mielomeningocele apresenta necessidades especiais que requerem cuidados familiares contínuos. O objetivo foi conhecer as vivências das famílias no cuidado da criança portadora de mielomeningocele. Estudo com abordagem qualitativa realizado com quinze famílias em julho de 2006 por meio de entrevistas semi-estruturadas. As categorias de análise foram: Necessidades da mãe/família na busca de cuidados à saúde da criança; Necessidades e cuidados especiais da criança na vida diária; (In)satisfação da família e sentimentos de conformação. Os resultados denotam que as necessidades das crianças/famílias se estendem, principalmente, aos problemas físicos, psicossociais e financeiros. A insatisfação é gerada pelos transtornos no atendimento e pela falha na comunicação. Concluímos que, para minimizar as adversidades provocadas pela doença e promover o acolhimento das famílias, são necessárias intervenção interdisciplinar com apoio institucional; ações de melhoria no cuidado e aproximação da integralidade proposta pelo Sistema Único de Saúde.
