Abstract
La confrontation de ces deux textes, d’apparence si différents, devrait permettre de mieux faire ressortir la place du Kojiki dans l’histoire littéraire japonaise. On l’a pris parfois pour une histoire, ce qu’il n’est pas, pour un recueil de mythes, mais cela ne concerne que le premier livre, pour un texte de commande assez maladroit, ce qui mérite discussion.En fait, il légitime comme l’Énéide, un nouveau pouvoir à l’issue d’une guerre civile en chantant les origines. Comme l’œuvre de Virgile, c’est une épopée de lettré jouant savamment des oppositions et des échos entre le Temps des dieux et celui des hommes.Transcrit de façon elliptique, il ne correspondait pas au goût des élites sinisées de l’Antiquité. Sa redécouverte tardive ne lui rendra pas entièrement son statut d’œuvre littéraire.
