Les exigences du Code de sécurité pour les travaux d'excavation, notamment en ce qui a trait à la distance de garde en tête des excavations étançonnées, constituent des limites contraignantes, voire pénalisantes, surtout dans les chantiers situés en milieu urbain. C'est ce qui a motivé, à la demande de la Ville de Saguenay, la présente recherche. Le but est d'étudier, à travers des investigations expérimentales étendues, si les tuyaux de tôle en acier ondulé et galvanisé (TTAGO), utilisés comme étançonnement par la Ville de Saguenay lors des travaux d'excavation de courte durée, permettent de: (a) déposer, en toute sécurité, des matériaux à moins de 1,2 mètre des parois du dit étançonnement; (b) circuler ou stationner, en toute sécurité, avec des véhicules ou des machines de chantier utilisés par la Ville de Saguenay à moins de 3 mètres des parois. Les investigations expérimentales renferment des essais en laboratoire, et en chantier.
