O deslocamento de um grande número de estrangeiros vindos de várias partes do mundo habitar a América possibilitou a criação de diversas utopias sobre o continente. Este texto se propõe analisar isso a través do exame de duas obras de categorias distintas : Amrik, da brasileira Ana Miranda e Les lettres Chinoises, de Ying Chen, uma representante da literatura migrante no Qubec. Amrik é a palavra árabe recorrente no imaginário dos orientais do começo do século passado como a possibilidade de realização de sonhos de prosperidade em terras pacíficas; Les lettres Chinoises ilustra o cruzamento de vozes e atitudes subjetivas com relação ao espaço língua/cultura/identidade dos imigrantes chineses na América do Norte. O romance de Ying Chen é o testemunho de uma América cheia de ambiguidades, mas até certo ponto bem sucedida. Ana Miranda, por sua vez, mostra um rico registro da decepção dos europeus e orientais à procura da "terra prometida", uma promessa que não se cumpriu. Résumé: La mobilité d’un grand nombre d’étrangers venus du monde entier habiter en Amérique a entraîné la création de diverses utopies sur le continent. Nous nous proposons d’analyser cela en examinant deux œuvres de catégories distinctes : Amrik, de la Brésilienne Ana Miranda et Les lettres chinoises de Ying Chen, une représentante de la littérature migrante au Québec. Amrik est le mot arabe qui peuplait fréquemment l’imaginaire des Orientaux du début du siècle dernier, illustrant la possibilité d’accomplir des rêves de prospérité sur des terres pacifiques ; Les Lettres Chinoises montre le croisement des voix et des attitudes subjectives par rapport à l’espace langue/culture/identité des immigrants chinois en Amérique du Nord. Le roman de Ying Chen est le témoignage d’une Amérique pleine d’ambiguïtés mais "réussie". Ana Miranda, par contre, montre un registre fertile de la déception des Européens et des Orientaux à la recherche de la "terre promise", une promesse non remplie.
