Abstract
La musique a une place de choix dans le cœur des Groenlandais ; ils chantent volontiers en toute occasion et, bien qu'il n'y ait pas encore d'institution qui enseigne la pratique instrumentale, la plupart d'entre eux savent jouer de la guitare ou du clavier. J'aborderai d'abord cette particularite, en observant notamment comment se fait la transmission musicale, puis en proposant une reflexion, inspiree de l'ethnomusicologue J. Blacking, sur le lien entre legitimite et aptitude musicale. Je presenterai ensuite un petit panorama de la production actuelle — illustre par des extraits musicaux, des traductions de texte, des pochettes et des discours de musiciens — que j'ai organise en trois tendances : une « pop locale », uniforme, qui arrose le quotidien radiophonique groenlandais ; une musique d'origine inuit melee a de la musique electronique ; un rock d'inspiration internationale qui elimine toute reference au pays. Je suggererai finalement que l'on peut lire dans ces courants les differentes attitudes qu'ont les Groenlandais face a leur pays : un patriotisme fort, la recherche de racines ou un desir d'ouverture sur le monde.
