Abstract
Despues de presentar una breve cronologia de la autopista 407 ETR (Electronic Toll Road) de Toronto, Canada, y de exponer las caracteristicas de su explotacion en cuanto al trafico, el Centro de Operaciones y Gestion de la concesionaria, el matenimiento y los servicios al usuario, se expone el sistema de peaje electronico de la misma, abarcando sus atributos fundamentales, la concepcion del sistema, los componentes 'hardware del sistema, los componentes software y funcionalidades especificas. Asimismo se menciona el entorno legal y social del sistema y de la explotacion de dicha autopista, asi como el plan de inversiones previsto en todos los ambitos y especialmente en el de los sistemas de informacion. Se concluye afirmando que en Espana y el resto de Europa la implantacion de tales sistemas resultaria tecnicamente factible, asumiendo que durante un cierto numero de anos deberan convivir sistemas de peaje electronicos y convencionales, y que las areas de peaje deberan ser paulatinamente adaptadas.
