Le retour des préoccupations éthiques traduit le malaise profond de nos sociétés, malaise consécutif au triomphe de la rationalité instrumentale qui a tendance à faire des êtres humains des objets manipulables. Cette perversion de la rationalité s'exprime particulièrement dans les entreprises. Pourtant, de nos jours, celles-ci essayent d'intégrer un souci éthique dans leur fonctionnement. On peut constater que, ce faisant, elles ont pour but, le plus souvent, de développer un consensus profond autour des idéaux dont elles se réclament, aussi bien de la part de leurs membres que de l'ensemble du corps social. Aussi doit-on se demander quels sont les véritables enjeux éthiques auxquels sont confrontées les organisations modernes. Dans ce but sont passées en revue les éthiques de la conviction, de la responsabilité et de la discussion. Une quatrième forme d'éthique, l'éthique de la finitude, est envisagée. Les organisations peuvent-elles lui faire une place? La question mérite, en tout cas, d'être posée.
