Abstract

C’est un fait peu connu que, bien avant leur établissement en Nouvelle-France en 1625, les Jésuites avaient inauguré, dès 1611, une première mission en Acadie. En ce sens, parce que la mission acadienne représente la première rencontre des Jésuites avec les peuples autochtones du Canada, elle mérite plus d’intérêt qu’elle n’en a reçu à ce jour. Cet article entend examiner, en les comparant, trois textes en lien avec cette mission. Cette comparaison nous permettra d’observer des différences sémantiques, stylistiques et idéologiques importantes entre les récits, datés de 1612 et 1616, qui sont du père Biard et celui, daté de 1618, qu’on lui attribue et qui pourrait bien être de la main de Philibert Monet, rédacteur à Rome.
