Abstract
Cet article se concentre sur trois nouvelles d’Alice Munro publiées en 2004, « The Juliet Trilogy », dans le volume intitulé Runaway pour explorer les modifications, tant formelles que conceptuelles, que subit le récit villageois britannique du XIX e siècle lorsqu’il est reterritorialisé sur le sol canadien à l’époque contemporaine et simultanément déterritorialisé par sa comparaison au monde antique et romantique. Par l’élucidation des références picturales, littéraires et cinématographiques qui parcourent la trilogie et par l’analyse de la relation qu’elles entretiennent avec les nouvelles, il s’agira de mettre en lumière les passages transcodés d’un milieu à un autre, les communications de milieux et les coordinations d’espaces-temps hétérogènes qui caractérisent ce conte du XXI e siècle. L’élargissement du noyau de référence sera envisagé comme instaurant un rythme-chaos ou « chaosmos », néologisme emprunté à Joyce que Deleuze et Guattari dans Mille Plateaux associent à une dynamique de devenir, de rencontre et de brouillage de frontières. La démonstration portera sur la réversibilité ambivalente des pôles dysphoriques et euphoriques entre lesquels le village chaosmique se déploie.
