L’émergence de l’âge adulte : de l’impact des référentiels institutionnels en France et au Québec

Abstract
La théorie de l’âge adulte émergeant soutient que la période de 18 à 25 ans constitue un nouvel âge des parcours de vie qui n’est pas structurée par les institutions. Cet article vise à mettre cette affirmation à l’épreuve de la comparaison internationale à travers une analyse qualitative comparée de l’entrée des étudiants dans l’âge adulte au Québec et en France. Un contraste important est observé dans le processus d’émergence du sentiment d’être adulte : les étudiants se déclarent adultes dès le début du post-secondaire au Québec mais seulement à la fin de leurs études en France. Ce contraste est expliqué par des référentiels institutionnels nationaux qui structurent des conceptions différenciées de l’être adulte, du rôle des parents ainsi que du travail rémunéré.
