Cet article présente les résultats d’une étude dont le but est de mieux comprendre les valeurs et objectifs qui guident la différenciation de l’enseignement de la lecture chez des enseignants du primaire. Des entrevues de nature phénoménologique, menées auprès de six enseignants considérés comme des modèles pour favoriser le progrès de tous leurs élèves en lecture, dévoilent le sens qu’ils accordent à leurs pratiques de différenciation. Des analyses individuelles et comparatives des profils de ces participants révèlent que la reconnaissance de l’unicité de chaque élève, le rôle d’accompagnateur qu’ils s’attribuent et l’importance accordée au développement de l’autonomie sont les valeurs et objectifs qui guident les interventions des enseignants.
