Abstract
Abstract Microscopic analysis of the chromosomes in the malignant cells of lymphoma specimens has provided useful information for clinical management of patients and has provided targets for molecular genetic research efforts to identify the genes that are deregulated during the development and progression of this type of cancer. The use of fluorescent‐dye‐labeled DNA probes specific for these genes has facilitated the detection of disease‐specific chromosome rearrangements in fresh and archived clinical specimens. This type of cancer genetic analysis will become an increasingly important tool for the laboratory investigation and clinical management of malignant lymphoma.
