Abstract
La remise en question d’une conception du développement régional inspirée de l’analyse centre périphérie et des rapports rural-urbain nous amène à replacer le problème du développement dans le contexte de la société informationnelle, de la société archipel et de la métropolisation. Dans ce contexte, qui constitue en fait la base territoriale de la mondialisation, nous repensons la question métropolitaine, en ayant comme référent le cas de Montréal et du Québec. Dans ce contexte, est-il pertinent de continuer à voir la métropole et les régions comme des réalités antagonistes ? Nous répondons qu’il faut plutôt revoir le concept de métropole, de dépasser le cadre étroit des rapports ville-région, et concevoir la métropole comme étant réticulaire et inclusive, liée aux autres composantes du Québec urbain.
