Au tournant des années 1980, alors que l’histoire littéraire n’est plus guère à la mode, paraissent plusieurs anthologies de la littérature québécoise qui deviendront vite des références en la matière. Conçus par des professeurs de l’Université de Montréal, ces « classiques » de l’anthologie comportent peu de discours critique mais proposent néanmoins une définition, une vision du corpus québécois qu’ils contribuent à édifier. Cet article se propose d’étudier les choix éditoriaux, le découpage et la mise en récit privilégiés par deux de ces incontournables, soit l’Anthologie de la littérature québécoise dirigée par Gilles Marcotte (1978-1980) et l’anthologie La poésie québécoise préparée conjointement par Laurent Mailhot et Pierre Nepveu (1981). En tenant compte à la fois de la singularité de la sélection proposée par chacune et de leur inscription dans une tradition critique établie, cette analyse tâche de préciser le type de travail sur le corpus québécois qui a été accompli par ces deux synthèses.
