Abstract
Le concept d'économie sociale fait partie du vocabulaire, en science économique comme en sociologie, depuis le XIXe siècle. Il prend des significations très différentes selon le modèle de développement dans lequel il s'inscrit. Dans le contexte institutionnel de la société québécois, l'économie sociale comprend actuellement deux volets, un volet développement économique à dominante marchande et un volet développement social, à dominante non marchande. En raison de son rapport à l'État, le volet non marchand soulève plus de questions et d'inquiétudes que le volet marchand. Replacée dans son contexte institutionnel, l'économie sociale ne constitue qu'un élément parmi d'autres pour repenser le modèle de développement.
