Abstract
Dans la perspective de Max Weber et de Ernst Troeltsch, l'ordre religieux peut être caractérisé à la fois comme un groupement volontaire utopique et un groupement total de virtuoses ascétiques; ses relations avec les officiels, civils ou ecclésiastiques, sont traversées par la transaction et la protestation. Il s'agit d'un groupement-type qui jouit d'un espace d'autonomie, tout en étant institutionnellement subordonné. L'ordre religieux de ces traits tient et de la secte et de l'Église. La théorisation inclut ces trois formes historiques de christianisme, elle s'inscrit dans la sociologie des conflits, et elle s'appuie notamment sur des études de cas centrés sur le Québec.
