Este artigo traz o relato de uma pesquisa sobre a recepção ao hóspede no setor hoteleiro. dois quadros teóricos são considerados nesse trabalho: a abordagem sócio-retórica de Swales (1990, 1992, 1998, 2004) e os conceitos de sistemas de atividades e gêneros desenvolvidos por Bazerman (1994, 2005). adiscussão desenvolvida neste artigo toma por base um hotel executivo de quatro estrelas localizado no centro da cidade de Florianópolis (SC, Brasil). apartir de entrevista com a gerência do hotel pesquisado e de dados da literatura da área, é realizada uma análise da comunidade discursiva hoteleira e um levantamento das atividades e dos gêneros da recepção em hotéis.
