Abstract
Avec Montréal, c’est tout le Canada français qui s’effondre. Mais le sort de la colonie ne semble cependant pas définitivement scellé pour les protagonistes. Car la guerre n’est pas terminée, bien au contraire. Elle va se poursuivre encore en Europe, mais aussi aux Caraïbes et en Inde, jusqu’au traité de Paris du 10 février 1763. L’article 13 de la capitulation décide finalement de la cession de la Nouvelle-France à la couronne britannique, qui devient alors la Province of Quebec . Cette cession ne s’est pas faite sans de vifs débats aussi bien du côté français que du côté anglais. S’il est apparu plus intéressant pour la France de conserver les Antilles, peu d’Anglais ont perçu la menace que portait l’intégration du Canada à l’Amérique britannique.
