Abstract
Cet article fait état d'une recherche sur les difficultés de l'intervention sociale en milieu multiethnique et multiculturel. Pour ce faire, des incidents critiques ont été recueillis auprès de 40 intervenants des services sociaux publics « les plus ethniques » de la région de Montréal en 1990-1991. Les principaux chocs culturels entre ces intervenants appartenant à une société développée, de type occidental et des clientes d'extraction non occidentales et de sociétés en développement ont trait à une conception différente du rôle des services sociaux, aux modes différents d'éducation des enfants, aux rapports hommes-femmes inégalitaires, à la notion différente de la famille et à une conception autre de la santé physique et mentale. Mieux connaître ces chocs, identifier et analyser ces zones sensibles de la rencontre interculturelle a plusieurs répercussions sur la pratique et la formation des praticiens sociaux.
