Abstract
O artigo trata do hiato existente entre a aprendizagem dos alunos e as relações humanas na escola. Propõe uma abordagem na qual estas relações são consideradas tanto como um meio para a aprendizagem, já que podem facilitá-la, quanto como um fim, pois são imprescindíveis na formação para a cidadania e convívio social. Alguns resultados de pesquisas são analisados, revelando de que maneira relações conflituosas causam impacto na aprendizagem dos alunos, principalmente daqueles mais pobres, além da maneira como tais conflitos são vistos pelos protagonistas dessas instituições. O artigo conclui que se faz urgente considerar as relações humanas na escola com o mesmo sentimento com que se discutem os testes padronizados.
