O transporte de contaminantes orgânicos na franja capilar foi verificado em testes de laboratório e experimentos de campo. Em um experimento de campo, foi verificada a formação de plumas dissolvidas na franja capilar com pelo menos 6m de extensão após derramamentos de gasolina e etanol. Poços de monitoramento convencionais se mostraram inadequados para a caracterização dessas plumas, sendo incapazes de captar a água da franja capilar. Assim, considera-se fundamental que a franja capilar seja incluída nos modelos conceituais de contaminação por LNAPLs. Além disso, deve-se considerar o uso de outros métodos de amostragem, que permitam inferir a concentração na franja capilar.
