Dans HHhH, un bourreau n’exerçant aucune séduction se fait voler la vedette par des membres de la résistance dont la mission salvatrice est célébrée sans ironie. Laurent Binet emploie différentes stratégies afin que le lecteur accueille sans scepticisme ces héros guerriers qui constituent une figure du Bien non relativisée. Au moment de représenter ces personnages historiques, le narrateur suspend son doute et refuse tout rapprochement entre le SS et le résistant. Par cette réconciliation avec la certitude, et cette limite que rencontre le fantasme de métamorphose, la représentation des personnages de la Shoah rompt avec les caractéristiques du sujet postmoderne.
