Na região Oeste do Estado de São Paulo progressivamente o Aqüífero Guarani, denominado por Danilo Anton, segundo Rocha (1997) em memória do povo indígena da região (anteriormente denominado Aqüífero Botucatu), se fixa como importante fonte de abastecimento de água. Cidades, industrias e grandes propriedades rurais se interessam cada vez mais em tê-lo como fonte principal ou complementar, substituindo os recursos superficiais quando de grandes demandas de água. A cidade de Marília, conta, atualmente, com quatro poços em operação. Acomplementação do abastecimento à partir da explotação deste Aqüífero se iniciou em 1991 e à partir daí tal explotação tem se incrementado. Este trabalho visa caracterizar o Aqüífero na micro região em que se encontra a cidade, visto que os dados bibliográficos e mapográficos, teóricos, disponíveis para acaracterização do mesmo, apresentam algumas discrepâncias quando confrontados com as informações que se obtêm por poços perfurados. O que se pretende aqui é definir quanto tais discrepâncias podem interferir na consideração quanto ao volume de água disponível para explotação no Aqüífero Guarani, na região de Marília e se tais discrepâncias podem vir a criar problemas quanto ao gerenciamento de sua explotação futura.
