Tanto para Bernardo Ortiz de Montellano (1899-1949) como para Genaro Estrada (1887-1937) representa un momento significativo en la trayectoria de sus respectivas carreras literarias. Para el futuro integrante de Contemporáneos ese año marca su inicio como poeta en las páginas de El Pueblo, mientras que su colega mayor se da a conocer como crítico literario con su fundamental antología Poetas nuevos de México. Sus caminos no dejarán de cruzarse durante más de dos décadas. Coinciden en las mismas revistas a partir de 1919: Revista Nueva y México Moderno.
