Les entreprises manufacturières doivent aujourd'hui répondre à de nouveaux impératifs environnementaux. À cet égard, elles cherchent à mieux définir l'impact de l'ensemble de leurs activités et lorsque cela est possible, à mettre en valeur leur performance environnementale. Dans certains secteurs, où la compétition est particulièrement vive, la capacité de présenter une offre compétitive à plus faible impact environnemental peut permettre à l'entreprise d'augmenter considérablement ses parts de marché. C'est dans cet esprit que ce travail vise, d'une part, à étudier le cas d'un producteur de bois lamellé-collé, à quantifier son empreinte environnementale en réalisant une analyse de cycle de vie et à identifier des pistes d'amélioration possibles de la chaîne de valeur de l'entreprise sur la base de ses impacts mesurés. Les résultats mettent en lumière les enjeux soulevés par les analyses de cycle de vie issues de données spécifiques au contexte québécois par comparaison avec des études européennes et américaines. Dans le cas du produit du bois à l'étude, les émissions de gaz à effet de serre sont de l'ordre de la moitié de celles estimées dans les bases de données disponibles.
