Abstract
Extension du domaine de la lutte met en scène un narrateur anti-héros qui sombre graduellement dans la dépression. Le monde qu’il habite lui paraît alors de plus en plus étrange. Dans une lutte à finir avec le genre humain, le protagoniste tentera de convaincre un collègue de travail de commettre un meurtre, avant de retourner cette violence contre lui-même et de se retrouver en institution psychiatrique. Cet article propose de revoir la notion d’étrangeté à la lumière de la position qu’occupe ce narrateur, soit celle d’un observateur-ethnologue qui, malgré son état dépressif, conserve cette sorte d’hyperacuité du regard et de l’analyse qui lui permet d’appréhender le monde autrement, en dégageant à la fois une théorie du libéralisme économique et sexuel, et une vision poétique de la réalité basée sur l’expérience de l’étrangeté — comme si la dépression ouvrait un autre espace de conscience, affligeant mais cristallin, sombre et pourtant salvateur.
