Abstract
The purpose of the research project was to determine how collective health promotion activities such as physical activity, nutrition and social connectedness programs encourage, increase and maintain peoples participation in rural and remote regions, ultimately having an influence on individual and community health and wellbeing long term. Relevant research and evaluation of uptake and sustainability of health promotion activities; not disease, will provide an overall picture of population health status. This is essential if effectiveness and efficiency of health promotion programs is to be measured. Findings will inform and drive policy and practice, contribute to the regional health promotion agenda and inform the key features related to the design and delivery of specific health promotion activities and potential resultant health improvement. Furthermore this will contribute to future health promotion approaches being based on socio-ecological values and principles that are consistent with the WHO Ottawa Charter for health promotion.
