Abstract
Le poète Renaud Longchamps est l’héritier des courants formalistes qui ont occupé les devants de la scène littéraire québécoise entre les années 1970 et 1985. En publiant, en 1988, Légendes et Sommation sur l’histoire, Renaud Longchamps reste encore fidèle à l’écriture formaliste, quand, dans ses strates « sensibles », le poème se constitue en objet spatial qui ouvre le sens à des parcours multiples. Longchamps poursuit par ailleurs un projet déjà ancien, celui de dire l’histoire et l’évolution des espèces vivantes afin d’abolir les frontières entre science et poésie. C’est la loi de la « gravité », avec toute l’ambiguïté qui s’attache à ce mot, qui construit les rapports complexes entre science et poésie dans Légendes et Sommation sur l’histoire. La loi de la gravité amène le lecteur à entendre le bruit de fond de la matière dans l’os, le fossile, le sol, le cosmos, c’est-à-dire dans l’anagramme-cryptogramme qui construit dans sa « répétition lancinante » le bruit de fond du poème.
