Abstract
Résumé En examinant les expériences de la chute du mur de Berlin (1989) et des attaques sur New York et Washington (2001), j’essaye dans cet article de mettre en question l’idée largement partagée que notre rapport à l’histoire serait rétrospective. Bien que la rétrospection puisse changer notre vision de la signification des événements, on peut faire l’expérience de leur historicité quand, au moment où ils surviennent, nous les plaçons dans un contexte historique et nous les rattachons à d’autres événements historiques. Je défends l’idée que, au moins dans le cas de certains événements majeurs, choquant et imprévus, tels que les deux exemples cités, l’histoire est donnée direc tement et est contemporaine.
