Abstract
L’île de la Merci (1997), second roman d’Élise Turcotte, propose un univers familial dans lequel la mère et ses deux filles, peut-être pour éviter la réductrice identification des femmes au corporel, n’habitent pas leurs corps ; en résulte un malaise qui, dans un contexte familial mortifère, va jusqu’à leur faire perdre le goût de la vie. En élaborant une ontologie de survie fondée sur des valeurs perçues comme masculines visant à contrer l’identification au corps féminin victimisé, l’aînée montre la nécessité de repenser les frontières des sexes.
