À la suite de la Libération de la France en 1944, François Lehideux s’est trouvé accusé de collaboration avec l’occupant. Sous sa direction, l’industrie automobile française pendant l’Occupation a travaillé presque exclusivement pour l’Allemagne. Pour sa défense, Lehideux a affirmé que l’industrie avait saboté l’effort de guerre allemand en sous-produisant délibérément. Bien que des historiens ont fait écho aux affirmations de Lehideux, le phénomène de sous-production n’a pas été examiné d’une façon critique. En étudiant les activités de la compagnie Ford SAF pendant la guerre, cet article montre qu’il est plausible que Ford SAF ait moins produit pour l’Allemagne qu’elle n’aurait pu le faire, particulièrement pendant les années 1943-1944. Dans le même temps, cette sous-production ne constituait pas une forme de résistance, car Ford SAF n’était pas motivée par le désir de nuire à l’effort de guerre de l’Allemagne.
