Abstract
Cet article essaie de faire le point, à la lumière de ressources bibliographiques très limitées, sur la place des femmes dans le mouvement syndical québécois et sur l'idéologie véhiculée par les centrales syndicales en rapport avec la condition féminine. Prenant appui sur une brève revue des idéologies sociétales québécoises concernant la femme (1940-1970), on passe en revue les trois centrales syndicales québécoises, particulièrement la C.S.N. et la F.T.Q., mais aussi la C.E.Q., sous l'angle idéologique ainsi que politique (présence des femmes). Cette démarche se complète de considérations générales sur la syndicalisation des femmes québécoises et sur leur militantisme, ainsi que sur l'attitude en général des structures et dirigeants syndicaux du Québec en regard du travail féminin. Des hypothèses sont posées visant à expliquer les orientations différentes des deux centrales ouvrières, C.S.N. et F.T.Q., dans l'expression de leur préoccupation vis-à-vis de leurs membres féminins. On identifie enfin les choix fondamentaux s'offrant présentement aux centrales syndicales (protectionnisme ou égalitarisme) et on souligne la nécessité de combler leur retard à intégrer la dimension féministe à leur réflexion politique ainsi qu'à leur pratique syndicale.
