Abstract
Résumé La mesure et le nombre sont au cœur de la gestion. La vérité s’y compte et la certitude s’y met en chiffres. Et pourtant, la vérité se dérobe et la certitude n’arrive pas à faire taire le doute. Alors, le gestionnaire s’obstine; il mesure et compte encore. Mais a-t-il un autre choix? Nombre de pratiques de gestion des ressources humaines portent un témoignage de cette obstination qui répond, bien sûr, à une obsession de l’efficacité, mais également, et peut-être davantage, à une exigence de légitimité toujours à construire. L’évaluation de la performance individuelle est, de ce point de vue, une pratique quasiment emblématique. Qui peut croire qu’une entreprise ait là le trébuchet lui permettant une mesure fiable et précise de la contribution de chacun? Mais lui faut-il renoncer pour autant?
