Abstract
II n'est pas possible de réduire la sociologie à un seul modèle. La sociologie ne peut se définir en rupture avec un ou plusieurs d'entre eux. Rejeter l'utilitarisme et réserver le domaine des actions rationnelles à l'économie, comme le fait Parsons dans la Structure de l'action sociale, est se priver d'une méthodologie au nom d'une conception métaphysique. L'explication rationnelle des actions est à la portée de la sociologie. En réalité, il y a progrès lorsque l'explication de l'action passe du recours à l'irrationalité ou au non logique, au recours à la rationalité. La notion de la rationalité en sociologie est polysémique, alors que sa définition est d'ordre sémantique. En effet, il est impossible de définir des critères objectifs à la notion de rationalité. Dans ce contexte, retrouver le sens d'une action équivaut à reconstruire les raisons sur lesquelles elle s'appuie.
