Abstract
El complejo sistema comercial de los mexicas postclasicos de la Cuenca de Mexico (1325-1521 d. C. ) es analizado bajo la perspectiva economica sustantivista expuesta por el filosofo Karl Polanyi (1886, Viena-1964, Ontario). Se pone atencion especial en tres aspectos de la actividad comercial nahuatl: los mercaderes pochtecas, el dinero prehispanico y la estructura de mercado. Existe coincidencia en la premisa general del modelo teorico, es decir, como la interaccion surgida entre el hombre y su medio ambiente logra establecer relaciones socioeconomicas intra y extragrupales compartidas por distintas agrupaciones culturales, dentro de pequenas localidades o en un amplio espacio geografico.
