iii "La teoría económica nos enseña que el turismo es una de las actividades más rentables en la historia del planeta.Se trata de un sector que no conoce fronteras, no solo por el hecho de basarse en los viajes, sino porque las ramificaciones de su industria tocan a múltiples aspectos de nuestra cotidianidad.El actual rumbo de la globalización, sin embargo nos impone también evaluar cuáles son los riesgos de apostar por el turismo como motor de desarrollo y en qué medida es posible combinar el impulso a esta actividad económica con la sostenibilidad social y ambiental.Poner el acento en la vinculación entre el turismo y el desarrollo significa analizar en qué condiciones el turismo puede contribuir de forma efectiva a la lucha contra la pobreza, la injusticia social y el deterioro ambiental y cómo puede, promoviendo el respeto, la hospitalidad y el diálogo, convertirse en un instrumento para la resolución de conflictos entre culturas".
