Abstract
Plusieurs articles recents ont souligne la non-linearite de la relation entre le revenu des parents et celui de leurs enfants pour expliquer les contraintes intergenerationnelles considerables au chapitre du credit. Dans le present article, nous soutenons que toute tendance, quelle qu'elle soit, relative a la fonction d'esperance conditionnelle peut etre justifiee par une explication bien construite axee sur les contraintes d'emprunt, ce qui souleve des questions quant a la validite de cette approche. Les regressions par quantile constituent un test de substitution. A la lumiere de donnees tirees des dossiers fiscaux canadiens, le present article fait etat de resultats allant a l'encontre de l'hypothese des contraintes d'emprunt : la non-linearite de la fonction de regression est attribuable aux fils ayant peu de capacites (non assujettis a des contraintes) plutot qu'aux fils ayant des capacites importantes (vraisemblablement assujettis a des contraintes).
